Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine 2010 Art Cruise

We’ve just completed an extraordinary art-related journey to Russia. In conjunction with Fine Art Connoisseur magazine, approximately 40 people traveled to the Baltic for a week-long cruise on the Crystal Symphony which included many once-in-a-lifetime VIP experiences in St. Petersburg.

Imagine visiting the world’s largest art gallery – when nobody is around! The group toured the Hermitage after closing hours. While there wasn’t time to see all of the 322 galleries housing 3 million works of art, they had a “wow” experience.

Another highlight was the private visit to the Academy of Art (the Repin Institute). This esteemed school is where Russia’s finest artists have mastered their craft for centuries. Although it was closed for summer break, we arranged for the Director to give a private tour and lecture, and for students to display (and sell) their masterpieces.

Private canal tour, Catherine’s Palace, the Russian Museum, St. Isaac’s Cathedral (another private visit), Kirov Ballet and Peterhof … it was a busy three days!

Peter Trippi, Editor of Fine Art Connoisseur, gave private lectures to explain what they’d be seeing each day. Peter is engaging and funny. His explanations added much to everyone’s ability to understand and appreciate the art and architecture in the ports of call.

And, of course, we must give kudos for the extraordinary experience of Crystal Cruise. A perfect ten from everyone!

Other ports of call included Tallinn, Estonia and Stockholm.

As is typical of the WOW Travel Club, the group bonded beautifully, and have vowed to “do another one” next year. Florence, Paris, Spain . . . ? Stay tuned!!
