India Done Different! – 2018

This journey is a combination of three unique itineraries curated by the “creative queen,” Marilyn Murphy, for whom India is her favorite country in the world. She collaborated with Philippa Kaye, a Brit who has lived and worked in India for more than two decades – seeking out the people and places beyond the mainstream destinations.

More than monuments and temples, this journey provides ample opportunities to meet fascinating people: artisans, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, royals, performers, farmers, women, and kids.

Highlights

Delhi

  • The part one of our journey through Inda starts with a special rickshaw tour of Old Delhi and dinner at Masala Library.
  • At Varanasi we meet up with Kunal, our excellent, local guide who guides us through the Hindus believe system surrounding the cycle of rebirth. That night we stayed at Brijrama Palace Hotel.
  • We visited Sarnath, where Buddha gave his first teachings after attaining enlightenment. It’s now a UNESCO World Heritage site and then caught a flight to Mumbai.

Mumbai

  • The part two of our adventure see us exploring Mumbai using local transport, guided by enthusiastic youngsters who were once street kids, now trained to be professional tour guides.
  • We had enjoyable interactive sessions and meals with artisans, performers, and community leaders; and traditional handicrafts and performing arts that are in danger of dying out.

Udaipur

  • The final leg of our journey picks up from Udaipur where we transfered by boat to the Leela Hotel across beautiful Lake Pichola and check in for the night.
  • Next, we visit Jaipur en route to a wonderful grassroots NGO in the city of Ajmer to meet women artisans employed by Anchal Project which provides economic opportunity and other life-changing benefits to marginalized women.
  • The next morning saw us visiting the Amber Fort by jeep with guides standing by to lead walking tours of the old city tailored to specific interests: temples, textiles, jewelry, etc.
  • We view the Taj Mahal at sunset from a special vantage point and spend the night at the ITC Mughal Hotel.
  • The next morning we enjoy a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal before breakfast and pay a visit to the Wildlife SOS Elephant Rescue Center.
