Ansel Adams of the Ocean

It’s always a joy to meet someone who has managed (like I have) to meld one’s passion with one’s “work.” I met another such a person last week.

When he wasn’t surfing the monstrous, sand-sucking waves on the fabled North Shore, Clark Little had a relatively docile job at a Hawaiian nature preserve. One day his wife asked him to take a surf photo to hang on their bedroom wall.

From that innocent request of three years ago, Clark began his quest to capture the “perfect wave.” Starting with very crude equipment, he soon realized that his images were, indeed, capturing the exhilaration and raw power of the ocean – experiences known only to big-wave surfers. I saw a spread of his photos in the Hawaiian Airlines in-flight magazine several months ago, and arranged for Clark and Sandy to make a presentation to an association group that I coordinated on the Big Island of Hawaii. He photographs waves from the inside out – capturing the color, drama, light and shadows in his extraordinary images.

“Amazing…” “Awesome…” “Unbelievable…” are but a few of the comments about his work.

Clark has just published a gorgeous coffee-table book, and will be signing it at an appearance at the California Surf Festival in Oceanside on November 21st.

Clark is a true artist and an amazing talent! Another WOW!
