Activity Level

Our tours are designed for travelers who are comfortable with daily mobility. Each day offers the opportunity to explore a new town or village, which may involve walking for up to an hour or more. This walking can occur on uneven terrain, including navigating stairs, and often requires getting in and out of vehicles. While the pace is manageable, it is essential that you can walk independently with the group and do not require assistance.

DAY ONE – Saturday, November 1st – Tokyo – Arrival

Individual arrivals into Tokyo. There are two international airports in Tokyo: Haneda & Narita. Haneda is the preferred airport as it’s much closer to the city center.

Transfer to the beautiful Mandarin Oriental Tokyo.

DAY TWO – Sunday, November 2nd – Tokyo

Your first full day in Tokyo begins with a visit to Meiji Shrine, one of the city’s most significant Shinto sites, dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. Here, you will participate in a Kagura blessing ceremony, a special ritual that offers insight into Japan’s spiritual traditions within a peaceful, wooded setting.

After the ceremony, you step outside the shrine gates to Omotesando, a lively, tree-lined avenue known for its stylish boutiques, unique architecture, and inviting cafés. You’ll have free time to stroll, shop, or simply enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of this fashionable neighborhood.

Next, you will gather for lunch at a local restaurant, where you can savor authentic Japanese flavors. In the afternoon, the pace shifts to something more interactive as you join a taiko drumming class. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, you will experience the powerful rhythms of this traditional Japanese art form, discovering its energy and cultural significance.

Later, you will turn your focus from tradition to the future with a visit to teamLab Borderless, Tokyo’s world-famous digital art museum. Here, interactive installations, dazzling light displays, and immersive exhibits blur the boundaries between art and viewer, creating a mesmerizing and unforgettable experience to conclude your day.

DAY THREE – Monday, November 3rd – Tokyo

You will begin your last day in Tokyo with a visit to Tsukiji Market, once the oldest and most renowned fish market in the world. Although wholesale operations have relocated elsewhere, Tsukiji remains a vibrant destination, featuring stalls that sell fresh seafood, produce, and traditional Japanese specialties. Walking through its bustling alleys offers a glimpse into Tokyo’s culinary culture and heritage.

Following your market visit, you’ll participate in a sushi-making experience guided by a skilled chef. From preparing the rice to handling the fish, you’ll learn the techniques behind this iconic Japanese dish. The highlight is when you sit down to enjoy the sushi you’ve crafted yourself, making for both a fun and rewarding lunch.

The afternoon is free for some last-minute shopping. Whether you choose to explore department stores, pick up unique souvenirs, or wander through the lively neighborhoods, it’s the perfect chance to soak in a final taste of Tokyo at your own pace.

In the evening, you’ll gather for a special farewell dinner at Mon Cher Ton Ton, where you’ll enjoy a teppanyaki meal featuring premium wagyu beef. As the chefs prepare your meal with flair at the grill, you’ll experience a memorable dining event that brings your time in Tokyo to a flavorful close.

DAY FOUR – Tuesday, November 4th – Tokyo, Mt. Fuji Area

Start the day with an early breakfast before embarking on a scenic two-and-a-half-hour drive through the Japanese countryside. The trip provides stunning views along the way, setting the tone for a memorable day of exploration.

Your first stop is Lake Ashi, where you take a cruise and enjoy the calm waters surrounded by mountains. On clear days, the view of Mt. Fuji rising majestically above the horizon is truly unforgettable.

Next, you head to Owakudani Valley, an active volcanic area known for its steaming vents and bubbling hot springs. The stunning landscape offers a unique view of Japan’s volcanic activity, and you might even want to try the famous black eggs, boiled in the sulfuric waters and believed to add years to your life.

Afterward, you enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, sampling the regional specialties before continuing your journey.

In the afternoon, the day ends with a visit to Hakone Shrine, a tranquil sanctuary tucked among tall cedar trees. Its eye-catching red torii gate at the edge of Lake Ashi forms one of the most iconic and spiritual scenes in Hakone.

Once you return to Tokyo in the evening, dinner will be on your own, with numerous excellent dining options nearby to suit every taste and preference.

DAY FIVE – Wednesday, November 5th – Tokyo, Kanazawa

You begin your morning with an unforgettable sumo show, where professional wrestlers showcase their strength and traditions. The performance features a series of demonstrations that showcase the wrestlers’ signature moves, offering guests a rare opportunity to witness this centuries-old sport up close in a way that is both entertaining and deeply cultural.

After the show, you head to Tokyo Skytree, the tallest tower in Japan, which stands at 634 meters. From the observation deck, you can enjoy sweeping panoramic views of the city, extending all the way to Mount Fuji on clear days. The vastness of Tokyo from above provides a unique perspective of this bustling metropolis.

For lunch, you dine on the 42nd floor of a high-rise building, where floor-to-ceiling windows offer a spectacular view of the city. As you enjoy your meal, you can take in Tokyo from this new vantage point, appreciating the vastness and beauty of Japan’s capital.

In the afternoon, you board the bullet train headed for Kanazawa, traveling across the countryside at remarkable speed and comfort. Once you arrive, you settle into your hotel – the Hyatt Centric Kanazawa Hotel, located in the heart of the city. Later, enjoy dinner at a nearby restaurant, conveniently located within walking distance, making for a relaxed and easy end to a day full of cultural discovery and travel.

DAY SIX –  Thursday, November 6th – Kanazawa

Your day in Kanazawa begins with two immersive cultural experiences. First, you participate in a Japanese sweet-making workshop led by a third-generation artisan. Under their expert guidance, you will learn to craft delicate and beautifully designed confections, gaining an appreciation for the artistry and tradition behind these beloved treats.

Next, you will delve into one of Kanazawa’s most famous crafts: gold leaf pasting. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to create your own piece, allowing you to learn about this centuries-old art form while also bringing home a unique keepsake that reflects your time in the city.

Between these two experiences, we’ll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Then take a leisurely stroll through the Higashi Chaya district. This well-preserved geisha district is filled with traditional wooden teahouses and narrow streets, creating a timeless atmosphere. It offers a glimpse into Kanazawa’s cultural heritage and is the perfect place to explore, shop for souvenirs, or simply enjoy the charm of the area.

Later in the day, you’ll return to your hotel to dress in a kimono, adding an extra layer of authenticity to your experience. In the evening, you can enjoy dinner while wearing the kimono, allowing you to fully embrace the elegance and tradition of Japanese culture as you dine in style.

DAY SEVEN – Friday, November 7th – Kanazawa, Kyoto

This morning, before traveling to Kyoto, visit the Samurai Nomura House, followed by Kenrokuen, one of Japan’s three most beautiful gardens. Lunch will be provided on the train.

Upon arrival, drop off your luggage at the Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto and enjoy the afternoon at your leisure to explore or relax.

In the evening, gather in the hotel lobby for transportation to a traditional Japanese restaurant for a private Maiko dinner. The dinner will feature an authentic dance performance, and you will have an opportunity to interact with the performers.

DAY EIGHT – Saturday, November 8th – Kyoto

Your day begins with a visit to one of Kyoto’s most iconic landmarks, the Golden Pavilion. This Zen temple, covered in brilliant gold leaf, shimmers in the sunlight and reflects beautifully in the surrounding pond, creating a breathtaking scene that has inspired visitors for centuries. The serene gardens around the temple add to the peaceful and spiritual atmosphere.

From there, you head to Arashiyama, a district famous for its natural beauty. Here, you discover the enchanting bamboo grove while riding in a traditional rickshaw. As the tall bamboo stalks sway gently overhead, the experience feels almost otherworldly, offering a moment of calm and wonder.

For lunch, you enjoy a Buddhist meal at Tenryuji Temple, one of Kyoto’s most celebrated Zen temples. Surrounded by a tranquil garden, this experience offers not only delicious vegetarian cuisine but also an opportunity to immerse oneself in the temple’s spiritual ambiance.

In the afternoon, you return to the city center for an exceptional cultural experience: a calligraphy performance. Watching the art of brush and ink come alive provides insight into Japan’s aesthetic traditions and the meditative practice behind this centuries-old craft.

Tonight, you enjoy an Italian-Japanese course dinner at The Sodoh Higashiyama. As you savor this fusion of flavors, the evening is made even more memorable with a graceful performance by a geisha and maiko. Their elegant dance and traditional music create the perfect finale to a day filled with beauty, culture, and tradition.

DAY NINE – Sunday, November 9th – Kyoto

Your morning begins with a peaceful and intimate cultural experience as you head to a temple to participate in a private tea ceremony. Guided by a tea master, you learn the ritualized art of preparing and serving matcha, a tradition steeped in mindfulness and grace. The serene temple surroundings enhance the experience, offering a perfect moment of calm reflection.

From there, you continue to Nishiki Market, located in the heart of Kyoto. Known as “Kyoto’s Kitchen,” this bustling marketplace is filled with vendors offering fresh produce, pickles, sweets, and regional delicacies. As you wander through the lively stalls, you’ll have the chance to sample flavors unique to Kyoto and observe daily life in the city.

Next, you visit Nijo Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former residence of the Tokugawa shoguns. Famous for its elegant design, beautiful gardens, and unique “nightingale floors” that chirp when stepped upon, the castle provides a fascinating glimpse into Japan’s feudal history and culture.

After lunch, we’ll head to the Higashiyama district, home to some of Kyoto’s most beloved landmarks. Here, you explore Kiyomizudera Temple, one of the most iconic temples in Japan and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Perched on wooden terraces overlooking the city, the temple is both architecturally impressive and spiritually significant.

Before the day concludes, you have time to wander through the charming traditional shopping streets of Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka. These beautifully preserved lanes, lined with wooden buildings, tea houses, and craft shops, invite you to browse for souvenirs or soak in the old-world atmosphere of Kyoto.

DAY TEN – Monday, November 10th – Kyoto

Your day begins with a journey to Nara, one of Japan’s most historically rich and culturally significant cities. Upon arrival, you take part in a rare experience of Nara sumi, or ink-making. This traditional craft offers the opportunity to learn how solid ink is created, the same type still used by Japanese calligraphers today. You’ll even get to bring home a freshly made piece as a memorable keepsake.

Next, you visit Todaiji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Japan’s most remarkable landmarks. Inside this vast wooden structure—the largest of its kind in the world—you’ll find the awe-inspiring 13-meter-high Great Buddha statue. The scale and history of the temple leave a lasting impression, showcasing the grandeur of Buddhism in Japan.

By midday, you pause to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, where regional specialties highlight the flavors of Nara. This relaxed break allows you to refuel before continuing your explorations.

After lunch, you stroll through Nara Park, famous for its friendly deer that roam freely, before arriving at Kasuga Taisha. Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, this Shinto shrine is celebrated for its thousands of lanterns and its deep historical and spiritual significance. The peaceful pathways and striking architecture make it a highlight of the day.

On the way back toward Kyoto, you stop at the unforgettable Fushimi Inari Taisha. Known worldwide for its countless rows of vibrant red torii gates, the shrine winds dramatically up Mount Inari. Walking part of this pathway offers a deeply spiritual and visually striking experience, rounding out the day with one of Japan’s most iconic sights.

In the evening, you enjoy dinner at a local restaurant, reflecting on the rich history, culture, and beauty you’ve experienced throughout the day before returning to your hotel.

DAY ELEVEN – Tuesday, November 11th – Kyoto, Hiroshima

Depart Kyoto on the Bullet Train Nozomi, heading to Hiroshima to explore this historic city.

Upon arrival, embark on a sightseeing tour, starting with Hiroshima Castle, known for its impressive reconstruction and beautiful grounds. Explore the castle’s traditional architecture while learning about its history as a military stronghold and its destruction during World War II.

Enjoy a delightful lunch at a local restaurant, sampling Hiroshima’s cuisine.

In the afternoon, visit Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, a significant site dedicated to promoting peace and honoring the victims of the atomic bombing. The park features the Atomic Bomb Dome, preserved in its bombed state, along with various memorials and museums that offer deep insights into the bombing’s impact and the city’s remarkable resilience.

Arrive at Hilton Hiroshima, check-in, and unwind. The evening is yours to enjoy, whether relaxing in the hotel or exploring the city. Dinner is on your own.

DAY TWELVE – Wednesday, November 12th – Hiroshima

Begin the day with a 30-minute drive to Miyajimaguchi Ferry Port for a scenic ferry ride to Miyajima Island. Enjoy breathtaking views, including the iconic floating torii gate, as we approach.

Explore picturesque landscapes and historic sites on foot on the island. Our first stop is Senjokaku Hall, known for its vast, open interior and traditional design. It offers insight into the island’s architectural heritage.

Next, admire the Five-Story Pagoda, an elegant structure symbolizing spiritual harmony and historical significance. Its beautifully detailed tiers and serene setting are highlights of our visit.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, savoring the flavors of Miyajima.

In the afternoon, discover Itsukushima Shrine, famous for its floating torii gate and stunning seaside location. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, its unique design appears to float on water during high tide, creating a picturesque and spiritual experience.

Catch the ferry back to the mainland, soaking in Miyajima’s scenic journey and views. Upon returning to the hotel, unwind and relax for the evening, reflecting on the day’s exploration.
