Tomorrow (Saturday, Sept 14), I’m heading to Ljubljana, Slovenia!  I have three primary goals on this trip:

1. To learn how to spell Ljubljana without looking it up.

2. To learn how to say Ljubljana.

3. To check out this spectacular country for a potential WOW! Travel Club adventure in 2014.

Slovenia (like Puglia Italy) is one of the places that has been on my radar for a long time. Unexplored, unexploited and untrampled (at least by American travelers). Everything I have heard about the country points to spectacular.

If you’re not exactly sure where it is, you’re in good company. It’s not well known. And not to be confused with Slovakia (which is part of the former Czechoslovakia). Slovenia is at the north end of the Adriatic Sea (that’s the body of water lapping the calf of the Italian boot). Italy is to the west, Austria to the north, Hungary to the northeast and Croatia to the south/southeast. It was once part of Yugoslavia, but broke away in 1991.

Whomever drew their borders really screwed them over in the coastline department. Look at this map! They only have about 28 miles of coastline!

But, I’m told there are such amazing riches inland, that a coastline would have just been a distraction. The people are supposed to be warm and friendly as well.  Sounds like a perfect combination . . . watch this space for an announcement about another amazing, unusual, unforgettable WOW! adventure to a destination you didn’t even know you wanted to visit!
