Things that Make Travel Easier

WOW! Travel Small Group Travel

Many of you tuned in to witness our inaugural Facebook Live event on February 26. Thank you!

We were apprehensive about the whole idea, but it turned out to be fun and interactive. We appreciated the questions, comments, and positive feedback about some of the things we mentioned. If you missed it, we discussed some of what we’ve learned over the past few decades of traveling the world: things we can’t do without, hints, our favorite places, upcoming WOW journeys, and answers to your questions. The “broadcast” is embedded below if you’d like to tune in.

Following are links to the products we spoke about. (NOTE: These are not affiliate links, we don’t get a commission or “promotional consideration.” We simply offer the list as a convenience.)

Gabriel’s Bose noise canceling headset. These are the small ones that fit inside your ear. His are wired, this link is for a newer, wireless, version..

Marilyn’s Bose noise canceling headphones. They call them “around the ear” – the big ones. Her set is one of the original wired models, but this link will take you to a newer wireless version.

We got LOTS of requests about the face misting spray that keeps your skin hydrated in flight – and smells really good.  It’s Kiehl’s “Cactus Flower & Tibetan Ginseng Hydrating Mist” … doesn’t that sound refreshing? Be sure to order the TSA-approved 2.5 ounce size. At $17, it’s expensive – but worth it!

We recommend almost any kind of sleep mask to block the light in flight, but this is a link to the one that Gabriel prefers, and to the washable slippers he always travels with. (No extra charge for a giant size like his!)

Compression socks come in different “levels” of compression (some are just too tight). Try them on before your trip. A good place to find them is a “scrubs” store (medical scrubs). These stores are popping up and have a decent selection. This is a link to the socks that Gabriel prefers.

Something to read. Marilyn has a silly psychological trick: she brings 10 magazines she’s too guilty to toss before reading. She boards the flight with every intention to get through them, and then is surprised (and a bit disappointed) when the Captain announces they’re starting their initial descent! “We’re landing already? But I’m not finished with my magazines!” (Strange? Yes – but it works for her!) Gabriel has some very well-traveled books he hasn’t opened yet. Kindles are a great choice for downloading books and magazines without the weight.

Snacks…and not necessarily Corn Nuts (which, apparently, are her husband, Scott’s, favorite travel munchie!). Airplane snacks – if they even serve them for free any longer – are never substantial enough.

A currency converter for the countries you’ll be visiting (we provide handy little cheatsheets for our WOW! travelers). XE Currency makes a highly rated, free Smartphone app for iPhone and Android.

The video is muted as all Facebook videos are. You’ll need to click the speaker icon on the bottom right to turn on the sound.

Thanks for asking about some of our favorite places. The Facebook Live conversation re-ignited our passion to the extent that we’ve added Baja and Tahiti – and Ethiopia! – to our 2020 calendar for WOW! Travel Club adventures. Details are not finalized for all of these, stayed tuned! (And send us a message if you’re interested – that is helpful for our advance planning.) Here’s a sneak peek:
